Where: Gorey School of Art. Mary Ward Lane, Gorey, Co. Wexford.

Do you want to see your children’s movie on the big screen?

We are delighted to announce that some of this year’s movies will be shown at Wexford Documentary Film Festival in Kilmore Quay in September 2018 under the Kids Section. Children know their stuff…

The art of Stop motion is an exciting animation technique, which allows us to bring things to life. With Stop Motion we can control and move the world around us, or create our own imaginative world, in which objects and characters magically come alive. Short animations based on the stories generated within the workshop, will be brought to life.

Participants will learn how to manipulate suitable materials to animate their stories. Stop motion is one of the most tactile, hands-on, and rewarding areas of animation… Just think of ‘Wallace and Gromit’, and you’ve got the idea.

What’s it all about

During this week-long camp, children will get the opportunity to step into the world of animation. They will learn how to develop storylines and animate characters. They will experience working as part of a creative production team. And will gain an in-depth understand and practical experience of all the aspects involved in Stop Motion Animation.

Introduction to Stop Motion

The basics of Stop Motion will be explored. Participants will investigate some animation techniques suitable for Stop Motion. Examples of short animation movies will be screened, and participants will be given the chance to experiment with materials. Character formation and movement will be the focus of this workshop.

Scripts, Storyboards, Set Building and Character Construction

Ideas for stories will be explored; children will further develop their characters and will begin to create imaginative environments/backgrounds suitable for these. Storylines will develop as a collaborative process, and children will begin to work in creative production teams.

The participants will be given the means to record/document the entire processes (please refer to our terms and conditions at the bottom of this page). Their documentation will become part of the final display on day 5.

Stop Motion Animation

Production Teams will work together to generate and record their movie. Participants will gain practical hands-on experience of working on a production set. Scripts may be written and recorded, to enable sound and voice over.
